[Dbworld] MoViX’10: 2nd CfP

Sunday, February 28th, 2010

From: “Irena Mlynkova” (email address not shown)

2nd International Workshop on Modelling and Visualization of Web-Related Data
(MoViX’10) August 30 - September 3, 2010,
Bilbao, Spain

http://ulita.ms.mff.cuni.cz/ws/MoViX10/

to be held in conjunction with DEXA 2010
http://www.dexa.org/

Most of the existing data are currently provided, shared and exchanged over the Internet. For
instance, there is a huge amount of HTML and XHTML web pages that extend data with information
on their visualization, RDF data that add important information on semantics of the data, or
XML documents that involve data together with meta-data carrying information on their hierarchy.
Consequently, there rises the need for efficient and usable methods and tools for their design
and visualization. Such approaches help the user to better understand and describe the structure
and semantics of the data and, hence, to propose more appropriate processing methods. In addition,
various types of data models, conceptual schemas and visualization techniques enable users to
omit unnecessary technical details such as correct nesting of XML elements, case sensitivity,
matching of parenthesis, etc. and to focus on important aspects of the particular application
such as precise abstraction of the reality, data semantics, etc.

We believe that our specialized workshop will enable to bring all the related topics together
and provide an opportunity to deal with the known issues more thoroughly, to share the respective
ideas and to discuss them from various points of view. On the other hand, since correct modelling
of data and the knowledge of their structure as well as semantics is one of the key aspects for
their successful management, we believe that holding the workshop in conjunction with DEXA
conference will also provide the opportunity for sharing the ideas with data management experts
and finding new issues and challenges on both sides.

We invite original submissions from research communities dealing with different theoretical and
applied aspects of web-related data visualization and modelling. Areas of interests include, but
are not limited to:

* Conceptual modelling and visualization of web-related data
* Visualization, browsing and exploration of Semantic Web and Web 2.0 data

EC-TEL 2010
Fifth European Conference on Technology Enhanced Learning
Sustaining TEL: From Innovation to Learning and Practice
http://www.ectel2010.org

28 September - 1 October 2010 in Barcelona, Spain

The last decade has seen significant investment in terms of effort and resources (time, people, money) in innovating education and training.
The time has come to make the bold step from small scale innovation research and -development to larger scale implementation and evaluation. The time has come to show the world (government, industry, general population) that we have matured to the stage that sustainable learning and learning practices – both in schools and in industry – can be achieved based upon our work.

What not long ago was seen and experienced as a novel technology (Internet and WWW) has become for much of the populace mundane and commonplace (Web 2.0 and social software). What not long ago was expensive and exotic (computers and broadband computer networks) is now inexpensive and ordinary (netbooks and omnipresent wireless). And what in the past was proprietary and inaccessible (information and learning
materials) is now generic and open (open educational resources).

The TEL community is faced by new research questions related to large scale deployment of technology enhanced learning, support of individual
learning environments through mashup and social software, new approaches in TEL certification, etc. Furthermore, for new approaches are required for TEL design, implementation, and use to improve the understanding and communication of educational needs among all stakeholders, ranging from researchers, learners, tutors, educational organizations, companies, TEL industry, and policy makers.

ECTEL 2010 will bring together technological developments, learning models, and implementations of new and innovative approaches to training and education. The conference will explore how the synergy of multiple disciplines, ranging from Computer Science, Education, Psychology, Cognitive Science, and Social Science, can provide new, more effective and more especially more sustainable, technology-enhanced learning solutions to learning problems. The conference welcomes researchers and developers from European and Non-European countries and industries to present recent advancements from technologies, applications, and learning models in all areas of technology enhanced learning.

[Dbworld] ACM MEDES’10: 2nd Call for Papers and proposals for demonstrations, tutorials and workshops …

Sunday, February 28th, 2010

From: “Richard CHBEIR ” (email address not shown)

##########################################################################################################################
The International ACM Conference on Management of Emergent Digital EcoSystems (MEDES 2010)
with the cooperation of ACM SIGAPP and IFIP WG 2.6
http://sigappfr.acm.org/MEDES/10/
October 26-29, 2010
Bangkok-Thailand

Description and Objectives
—————————

In the world of the Internet, the rapid growth and exponential use of digital medias leads to the emergence of
virtual environments namely digital ecosystems composed of multiple and independent entities such as individuals,
organizations, services, software and applications sharing one or several missions and focusing on the interactions
and inter-relationships among them. The digital ecosystem exhibits self-organizing environments, thanks to the
re-combination and evolution of its “digital components”, in which resources provided by each entity are properly
conserved, managed and used. The underlying resources mainly comprehend data management, innovative services,
computational intelligence and self-organizing platforms. Due to the multi-disciplinary nature of digital ecosystems
and their characteristics, they are highly complex to study and design. This also leads to a poor understanding as to
how managing resources will empower digital ecosystems to be innovative and value-creating. The application of Information
Technologies has the potential to enable the understanding of how entities request resources and ultimately interact to
create benefits and added-values, impacting business practices and knowledge. These technologies can be improved through
novel techniques, models and methodologies for fields such as data management, web technologies, networking, security,
human-computer interactions, artificial intelligence, e-services and self-organizing systems to support the establishment
of digital ecosystems and manage their resources.

The International ACM Conference on Management of Emergent Digital EcoSystems (MEDES) aims to develop and bring together
a diverse community from academia, research laboratories and industry interested in exploring the manifold challenges
and issues related to resource management of Digital Ecosystems and how current approaches and technologies can be
evolved and adapted to this end. MEDES’10 conference will be held in Bangkok-Thailand from October 26th till
October 29th, 2010 by the National Electronics and Computer Technology Center Thailand (NECTEC) and Kasetsart University.

The conference Proceedings will be published by ACM and indexed by the ACM Digital Library.
