Call for papers for a special issue in

International Journal of Computer Systems Science and Engineering IJCSSE

Special issue on
Mobile Data Management: Models, Methodologies and Services

Guest Editors:
Franck Morvan, IRIT, Paul Sabatier University, France
Abdelkader Hameurlain, IRIT, Paul Sabatier University, France

The advent of mobile laptops, sensor and smart card combined to the
evolution of wireless networks providing higher bandwidth and better
connectivity generates new requirements for users. For example,
a user wishes to begin a transaction without connection to the
network, to locate the hotel the closest to him from the computer
embedded on his car, or to use a service on the web independently
of factors: time and place. The consideration of the constraints
bound to ultra portable laptops (e.g. screen size), to smart cards
(e.g. limited storage capacity), to the distribution and to the
heterogeneity of information sources spread on large-scale networks
raise numerous problems during the design of systems. These systems
have to adapt themselves to the changes of the mobile environment.
The objective of this special issue is to present recent research
works concerning mobility in data management. Original papers
preferably but not limited to the following topics are welcome:

- Metadata management
- Data management in wireless sensor networks
- Query languages
- Location dependent query processing
- Continuous query
- Embedded data management
- Data placement
- Load balancing
- Caching and replication
- Mobile transactions
- Disconnected operations
- Data and process migration
- Mobile query optimization
- Indexation of mobile objects
- Security
- Performance evaluation and benchmarking
- Mobile applications and experiences

Key dates:

Submission deadline: April 4th, 2009
Notification of paper acceptance: June 8th, 2009
Revised version deadline: July 6th, 2009
Final decision: July 27th, 2009
Final paper: September 7th, 2009
Publication: End of 2009

Submission of manuscripts:
Authors should submit their manuscripts via email to: morvan@irit.fr.
Do not use online submission system of the CSSE journal.

10 Year Anniversary

Jun 29th, 2009
Providence, Rhode Island USA

(collocated with ACM SIGMOD/PODS 2009)

http://www.cs.fsu.edu/mobide09/

AIMS & TOPICS OF INTEREST:

This is the eighth of a successful series of workshops that aims to act as a bridge between the data management, wireless networking, and mobile computing communities.

The 1st MobiDE workshop took place in Seattle (August 1999), in conjunction with MobiCom 1999; the 2nd MobiDE workshop took place in Santa Barbara (May 2001), together with SIGMOD 2001; the 3rd MobiDE workshop took place in San Diego (September 2003), together with MobiCom 2003; the 4th MobiDE workshop was held in Baltimore (June 2005. In 2006, MobiDE was organized in Chicago,(June 2006). The 6th MobiDE was held in Beijing, China (June 2007). Last year’s event took place in Vanco
uver, Canada (June 2008). This year’s event marks the 10-year anniversary of the workshop.

This year MobiDE 2009 is sponsored by ACM SIGMOD and held in cooperation with ACM SIGMOBILE (pending approval). Additionally, it is sponsored by EU’s Network of Excellence on Cooperating Objects.

As in the past 10 years, the workshop will continue to serve as a forum for researchers and technologists to discuss the state-of-the-art, present their contributions, and set future directions in data management for mobile and wireless access.

The topics of interest related to mobile and wireless data engineering include, but are not limited to:

* ad-hoc networked databases
* consistency maintenance and management
* context-aware data access and query processing
* data caching, replication and view materialization
* data publication modes: push, broadcast, and multicast
* data server models and architectures
* database issues for moving objects: storing, indexing, etc.
* m-commerce
* mobile agent models and languages
* mobility-aware data mining and warehousing
* mobile database privacy and security
* mobile databases in scientific, medical, and engineering applications
* mobile peer-to-peer applications and services
* mobile sensor network databases
* mobile transaction models and management
* mobile web services
* mobility awareness and adaptability
* pervasive computing
* prototype design of mobile databases
* quality of Service for mobile databases
* static sensor network databases
* transaction migration, recovery and commit processing
* wireless multimedia systems
* wireless web

The workshop will be organized in a manner that fosters interaction and exchange of ideas among the participants. Besides regular papers, we will also consider vision, retrospective and work-in-progress papers that have the potential to stimulate debate on existing solutions or open challenges. We additionally plan to accept a limited number of demonstration papers where researchers and technologists will have the opportunity to describe an innovative system or tool in the area of data management for mobi
le and wireless access. We discourage the submission of incremental papers. This year’s program is also expected to feature a keynote speech and a panel discussion on newly-emerging or controversial topics.

IMPORTANT DATES (HARD DEADLINES)
